Animation Final Project Part 2 (Stairs Walk)

Stairs Walk (Joe-Rig)

This is the walking upstairs and jumping off the stairs animation that I have done using the Joe-Rig, Enjoy!

Reflection

This is the part 2 assesment on the final project, I have done both the walking upstairs and also jumping of the stairs and land. Overall is still not bad, but I feel that the whole process could be done more better and looking more natural. This project requires much more patient and efforts put in compared to the walk-cycle, where I feel that the jumping part is the hardest of all. The jump must look natural as well as cannot define the law of gravity by floating too long in the air and the jumping angle which makes it looks unrealistic. This projects is actually fun and meaningful, and I actually learnt a lot through this assignments, keyframes, moving of different parts of body to make it looks natural, weight-shifting and more. I hope that I can improve more on my animation and keep on going in the next semester and in the future!

Animation Final Project (Standard Walk-Cycle)

Standard Walk-Cycle (Joe-Rig)

This is the basic Walk-Cycle that I have done using the Joe-Rig, Enjoy!

Side-View

Front-View

Reflection

This is the walk-cycle that I have done, to demonstrate weight shift and understanding of locomotion. After following some of the tutorials and pictures as a guide, I feel that the flow of my animation is quite good, and is also looking quite natural when he walk. The leg movements is good, the hands part is not bad and also I do the hips, shoulders and spine to make it look more realistic and to demonstrate the weight shifting part. This walk-cycle took me quite some time to finish, as it is very tedious and need to set frame by frame and bit by bit of movements. Overall I still quite enjoy this project, as when you finish the project and look at your own work, it feels a sense of achievement. I learnt that it takes hardwork and patient to complete even a small movements of the animation, now I know how the other animators feels, and how much real effort and time to put in order to get the nice animation done. I hope that I can work harder and improve my animation!

Week 5 - Topic 5 (Shift Weight Exercise 1 and 2)

Joe Rig Animation

This is the exercise that I have done using the joe rig model, which is the simple weight shift by moving from one leg to another.

Reflection

This is the first weight shift animation, which is by moving weight from one leg to another. It may look simple but theres a lot of factors to consider on, such as the weight is it on the left feet when start, and the weight should shift itself and move to the right feet. Setting the keyframes must be correct, as well as the different poses to get on one by one to make the animations looks good. Overall I think that it is still quite okay, but of course theres still rooms for improvements to do a better one.

Big Dog Animation

Next is the Bigdog that I have done, similarly it is also another weight shift exercise similar to the first one, but different animation done.

Reflection

This exercise is abit more harder than the previous one, as it requires to move up to four legs and do the weight shfit motion in the process. This one is more interesting I believe, there are some of the videos to show the process of the big dog motion which helps me a lot in animating the Big Dog. The keyframes and key poses must be syncronise to one another, and the weight shift must be shown through the movements of the Big Dog, when he moves his body should go up or down, rotate left or right. OVerall a fun and interesting exercise, got a hang of how it works doing moving animations, bravo!

Week 4 - Topic 4 (Rigging)

This is the rigging I have done using the female model, after long hours! Enjoy!

Pose 1

Pose 2

Pose 3

Reflection

I must say, this is a really tedious exercise!!! Much efforts and concentrations that you have to put in order to get the result, but after you have done it, you will have a sense of achievement and feels good after hours of staring infront of the computer. The poses are actually to show that all the parts are working well and fine. Overall this exercise is still not bad, through all this tutorials, it teaches use a lot of things such as the ik handles, joints and etc. I actually have some trouble doing the exercise, when I reach the part to orient the hands, one of it was actually screwed up due to the local axes of the tips of the fingers that did not set properly, I was not very sure how to do it actually, but after awhile I found out that using the freeze transformation was able to correct the axes position of the fingers thus saved me and I am able to continue. Overall, the exercise really help me a lot in learning the required tools for rigging, as well as patient, which is very important when doing the walk-cycle part during the final project, where it requires lots of patient to complete the work, a very satisfying and achieving exercise.

Week 3 - Posing

Poses

These are the 3 poses that I have done on the Marvel Superhero Spiderman! Enjoy!

This is my first poses!

First pose was given as a starting exercise, I feel that it was quite nicely done for me as a first timer, the hands and legs i try my best to make it look alike to that in the picture, and also bending the body to create a more realistic view that he is supporting using his hands and back muscle. Quite nicely done!

This one is my second pose using the picture as a reference I got from the internet!

This is the second pose using the picture I found on google, I find it rather interesting and cool, so I save it down and use it as a reference for my 2nd pose. The second one is kinda cool looking, as his jumping in mid air, the hands and legs are nicely done, and the body too I make it lean forward a little as he is jumping forward. Cool and interesting pose!

And lastly the 3rd pose, same as the previous one using the picture as reference!

This the the 3rd pose, and the hardest of all that I feel. This requires the spiderman body to lean foward all the way, and the hands and legs are all spread out in different position, thus is rather hard, but I still manage to do it, although is not that good, but it still kinda looks like it, a sense of acheivement after I have done all of this!

Reflection

Overall is still a fun exercise dealing with marvel superhero like spiderman. The spiderman model was in fact nicely done can be said to be flawless, sometimes I wonder how they do that, it must take them a lot of skills and time. It was fun trying out the difference poses though, although mine is not that good and have rooms of improvements, I did my best to make them look most alike to one another. Extremely fun excerise, hope to get more of this in the future!

Week 3 - Posing

Poses

First of all will be posing the monster in the 300 movie poster using some random guy.

My 1st pose in compatible with the one in the poster, lookng quite similar, but still theres a lot more to be done, like the facial part could look more angry and some minor parts of the hands can still be improved. Overall, is still not bad.

Secondly will be posing the female woman with tatoos using once again the random guy that has been use previously.

This is my 2nd pose, which looks more femine than the 1st one, I kinda like this one more, as I feel it looks more like one another, however the fingers can be done more nicely as well as the shoulders. Overall, this ones good!

Lastly will be posing the hot female model, using the random guy!

In this pose, I have adjust the facial expression to be similar to the female model which is smiling sweetly, as well as the hands and the legs part nicely done, but still have rooms for improvements, the hardest part of all is the crossing of the legs, which took me some time to finish it. Overall this one is still nicely done!

Reflection

Overall this is an extremely fun and interesting exercise as this is my 1st time doing of posing using the giving model. but of course theres samples to follow on the poses, during the process, I also move around the different parts as I am curious which it is very funny as the body parts can move 360 degree around. But still I manage to stop the nonsense and be able to finish up the pose after some time of doing. Fun and awesome exercise I would say!

Week 2 - Topic 2 (Creating the Cow Body)

This is the cow body that I have done! Lets see how we do it!

Process

First of all, by creating a cube, and extrude out the hands and the legs to form a basic body shape.

Next, use the vertex tool to make the belly of the cow to make it look similar like the realistic cow.

Once again, use the extrude tool to extrude out and form the feet of the cow.

Create a new cube and form a shape of the hands, using the extrude tool to extrude out the fingers, make sure it is not too close to one another, and the extrude out the wrist part of the hand to make a nice shape for connecting later on. Lastly use the mirror tool to make another similar hand for the other side.

Lastly, using the vertex joint tool, to joint out the vertices of the hands and necks to one another. Smoothen it with the smooth tool option, and the cow body is nicely done out!

Techniques

Apparently this excercise is quite and nearly similar to that of the cowhead, same things by using the extrude and vertex tools to create the cow body, as well as the vertex joint tool to connect the parts to the head and the hands to the body.

Reflection

Yet another fun and easy exercise, which is to recap the techniques and skills that we have learnt last semester. With the pictures, it was easy to follow and I didn't really have much trouble doing it. Overall, the experience was good.
